Dr. Vijay Papineni

Dr. Vijay Papineni is the lead consultant musculoskeletal (MSK) radiologist at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City in Abu Dhabi, with 29 years of clinical experience. He trained in radiology at the Sheffield Radiology Training Scheme in the UK and holds a Fellowship from the Royal College of Radiologists (obtained 2006). Before specialising in imaging, he worked across multiple surgical fields including orthopaedics, emergency medicine, general and vascular surgery, and ENT, giving him deep insight into the conditions he now diagnoses.

Dr. Papineni treats a wide range of musculoskeletal problems using advanced imaging and minimally invasive techniques. He performs ultrasound and CT-guided joint injections, soft-tissue biopsies and drainage procedures, MSK tumour ablation, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections, and barbotage procedures. His 14 years as a lead MSK radiologist in both the UK and UAE have built expertise in trauma, sports injuries, and rheumatological conditions affecting bones and joints.

He is particularly interested in the application of artificial intelligence to radiology and sports medicine, having completed postgraduate training in AI and machine learning from the University of Texas (2020) and a diploma in sports medicine from India (2022). Dr. Papineni is currently president of the Emirates Musculoskeletal Radiology Club and is a good fit for patients needing detailed imaging assessment of joint, bone, or soft-tissue injuries, or those requiring image-guided procedures for diagnosis or treatment.
