Dr. Stephen Holt

Dr Stephen Holt is Professor Director and CEO of SEHA Kidney Care in Abu Dhabi, where he has led kidney services since late 2019. He is an academic nephrologist with over 30 years of international experience, having previously served as Director of Nephrology at Royal Melbourne Hospital in Australia and as a Consultant Nephrologist in the UK. He also holds an adjunct position at Khalifa University.

Dr Holt's clinical expertise spans chronic kidney disease, vascular access for dialysis, haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis management, kidney transplantation, and mineral metabolism (calcium, phosphate and magnesium balance). He established the region's only mineralomics laboratory, reflecting his focus on understanding how the body processes minerals in kidney disease. His work has generated over 200 publications and he has supervised numerous grants and higher degree candidates.

He has a strong interest in applying clinical information technology to kidney care. Dr Holt sees patients by special appointment through his office rather than in regular clinics, and is well-suited for complex or specialist kidney referrals requiring high-level assessment and management.
