Dr. Nimantha de Alwis

Dr Nimantha de Alwis is a consultant endocrinologist with over 15 years of clinical experience trained in the United Kingdom. He holds an MBBS and MD, and has completed a PhD from Newcastle University focused on metabolic disease. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (Edinburgh) and has subspecialist training in general internal medicine in both the UK and Sri Lanka.

Dr de Alwis manages the full range of endocrine conditions, including type 1 and type 2 diabetes, thyroid disorders (overactive and underactive thyroid), and conditions affecting the adrenal glands, pituitary, parathyroid and pancreas. He has extensive experience in weight management and obesity treatment — he is SCOPE-certified in obesity and previously led two NHS weight-management services in the UK. He also investigates and manages fatty liver disease and diabetes in pregnancy.

His approach combines investigation, monitoring and personalised management. He has contributed textbook chapters and peer-reviewed articles in weight management and metabolic disease, reflecting his commitment to evidence-based practice and specialist knowledge in these fields.
