Dr. Fariha Shad

Dr. Fariha Shad is a Staff Physician in the Nephrology Department at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi. She brings 27 years of clinical experience, having trained and worked across Pakistan, the United States, and the UAE. She earned her medical degree with honors from Karachi Medical & Dental College in Pakistan, where she received a gold medal for outstanding academic performance. She completed her internal medicine residency at Cleveland Clinic Health Systems in Cleveland, Ohio, and her nephrology fellowship at Case Western Reserve University Hospital, also in Cleveland.

Dr. Shad specializes in managing a wide range of kidney conditions, including chronic kidney disease, acute kidney failure, diabetic kidney damage, high blood pressure, inherited kidney disorders, kidney stones, and electrolyte imbalances. She provides dialysis care and continuous renal replacement therapy, techniques used when kidneys no longer function adequately. Her clinical work has included caring for complex patients and managing medication adherence to improve outcomes in dialysis patients.

Dr. Shad has been instrumental in advancing patient education and community awareness. She initiated and implemented a pre-dialysis education program to help patients understand different dialysis options before starting treatment, established a kidney stone clinic to identify underlying causes of recurrent stones, and organized a kidney walk in 2018 to raise awareness about kidney disease prevention and early diagnosis. She is fluent in Hindi, English, Urdu, and Arabic.
