About Dr. Hatem Moussa
Associate Professor Dr. Hatem Moussa is the Group Chief of Surgery at American Hospital Dubai and founder of the American Hospital Hernia Center of Excellence, established in 2023. He is an international expert in robotic and minimally invasive surgery, American Board Certified since 2005, and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Moussa trained at the State University of New York (SUNY) Downstate and completed additional fellowship training in endocrine surgery at Tulane University in New Orleans.
Dr. Moussa performs complex abdominal wall hernia repairs and reconstruction using robotic, laparoscopic, and open techniques, including treatment of diastasis recti (separated abdominal muscles) and recurrent hernias. He is an active member of the American Hernia Society and an international speaker at hernia conferences worldwide. Beyond hernia surgery, he specializes in colorectal cancer, thyroid and parathyroid procedures, and soft-tissue tumors using advanced minimally invasive approaches.
A certified trainer in robotic surgery and clinical proctor for major robotic platforms (Intuitive and Cambridge Medical Robotics), Dr. Moussa is also the founder of the Dubai Hernia Summit, a prominent international conference. He combines technical expertise with a commitment to advancing surgical training and education.
