Dr. Abid Showkat Zagar

Dr. Abid Showkat Zargar is a Consultant Gastroenterologist with over 10 years' experience in gastroenterology and hepatology. He led the Department of Gastroenterology at Bansal Hospital, a 350-bed teaching hospital in central India with an active liver transplant programme, where he established the EUS (endoscopic ultrasound) and ERCP (bile duct drainage) services. He also worked as a consultant at Government Medical College, Srinagar, and completed advanced fellowships in therapeutic endoscopy at one of India's busiest endoscopic units.

Dr. Zargar specialises in advanced keyhole procedures including EUS-guided pain relief for cancer patients, ERCP for removing bile duct stones, and endoscopic removal of early stomach and bowel cancers (EMR/ESD). He treats the full range of digestive conditions—from acid reflux and peptic ulcers to inflammatory bowel disease, liver disease, and functional disorders like difficulty swallowing and gastroparesis. He also offers endoscopic weight management including balloon insertion.

Recognised for his endoscopy expertise, he received the Asian Young Endoscopist Award and completed fellowships at Hanyang University Hospital in Seoul. He is active in colon cancer awareness and has published over 40 peer-reviewed papers. Prior to Mediclinic, he worked at Al Zahra and Saudi German hospitals in Dubai.
