Dr. Robert Abouassaly

Dr. Robert Abouassaly is Institute Chief of the Integrated Surgical Institute at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, where he leads urologic oncology services. With 23 years of experience, he trained at Cleveland Clinic and the University of Toronto, earning his MD from McGill University and a Master's degree in Clinical Epidemiology. Before joining Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, he served as Director of Urology for the Western Region at Cleveland Clinic in Ohio and held leadership roles including Chair of the Prostate Excision Surgery Center of Excellence.

Dr. Abouassaly specializes in cancer of the urinary system—prostate, kidney, bladder, and testicular cancers—as well as adrenal and penile cancers. He has performed over 2,000 robotic urologic surgeries, focusing on minimally invasive (keyhole) techniques for complex cases. His work has influenced national treatment guidelines, and he has published over 150 peer-reviewed articles while leading multiple research projects funded by the National Institutes of Health and the Department of Veterans Affairs.

He is recognized for exceptional patient care and mentorship, receiving the Martin Resnick Teacher of the Year Award and the Cleveland Clinic Urology Residency Teacher of the Year Award.
