Dr Shantala Vadeyar is a highly experienced British and Indian trained consultant in obstetrics and maternal–fetal medicine. She graduated with honours from a premier medical college in India in 1989, then completed postgraduate training in obstetrics and gynaecology before moving to the UK for higher specialist training. She gained her MRCOG in 1993, FRCOG in 2007, and completed her subspecialty training in maternal fetal medicine with the RCOG in 2001. She was appointed director of the Fetal Medicine Unit at the University Hospital of Nottingham and also led clinical governance for the University Hospitals Trust. In 2003, she was awarded her Doctorate of Medicine for pioneering research in fetal functional MRI.
Dr Vadeyar spent over 14 years in the UK before moving to India to help establish fetal and maternal medicine services at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai, where she worked for 8 years. In 2016, she became director of fetal and maternal medicine services for the Cloudnine Group of Hospitals across India, overseeing care at over 15 sites. She also completed a research fellowship at the University of Barcelona. She joined Mediclinic Dubai in 2018 and now practises at Mediclinic City Hospital.
She is skilled in all aspects of prenatal ultrasound scanning, from early pregnancy assessment through to complex growth and blood-flow analysis. She performs invasive prenatal diagnosis procedures and provides detailed counselling for fetal abnormalities and high-risk pregnancies. She works closely with obstetric and other specialist teams to optimise outcomes for both routine and complex cases.
Special interests: fetal functional MRI research, prenatal counselling, management of complex growth restriction, education and training in fetal medicine.
