Dr Rana Mahmood is a British-trained consultant radiation oncologist with more than 20 years of clinical experience. He moved to Dubai from the UK's National Health Service, where he led cancer services across Colchester and Ipswich hospitals as Clinical Director. He also worked at King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre in Riyadh, where he established advanced brachytherapy and intraoperative radiotherapy services and served as Quality Medical Director. He is widely recognised for developing advanced image-guided radiotherapy and brachytherapy techniques across multiple centres.
Dr Mahmood specialises in treating breast, prostate, bladder, urological, cervical, uterine, gynaecological, and colorectal cancers using both medical and radiation-based approaches. He is particularly skilled in stereotactic body radiotherapy (SABR/SBRT), MRI-guided high-dose-rate brachytherapy for cervical and prostate cancer, low-dose-rate brachytherapy for prostate cancer, molecular radiotherapy, targeted biological therapies and immunotherapy (drugs that boost the immune system to fight cancer). He has led multiple international clinical trials and extensively published his research in peer-reviewed journals.
Dr Mahmood is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (both Glasgow and Ireland) and the Royal College of Radiologists (UK). He teaches at Royal College courses and has trained numerous oncologists. He is a member of the American Society of Oncology and the European Society of Therapeutic Radiation Oncology.
