Dr. Anil Pillai

Dr. Anil Pillai is a Consultant Neonatologist with 30 years of clinical experience, trained in the UK and based at NMC Healthcare in Al Ain. He was instrumental in establishing the first Level III Neonatal ICU in Abu Dhabi's private sector, a specialized facility equipped to care for the tiniest and most vulnerable newborns from 23 weeks gestation onwards.

His clinical expertise centres on managing newborns with complex conditions including severe lung disease, hypoxic-ischaemic encephalopathy (brain injury from lack of oxygen, treated with total body cooling), and pulmonary hypertension (high blood pressure in the lungs, managed with nitric oxide therapy). Dr. Pillai has pioneered a culture of minimally invasive ventilation techniques in his unit, allowing extremely premature babies (weighing as little as 600 grams, born 14 weeks early) to be supported without invasive breathing tubes, protecting their developing lungs and brains from long-term damage.

Dr. Pillai maintains active involvement in academic medicine through research and publications, and regularly participates in national and international neonatal conferences. He is an ideal choice for families with critically ill or extremely premature newborns requiring specialist intensive care.
