About Dr. José L. Díaz-Gómez
Dr. José L. Díaz-Gómez is Institute Chief of the Integrated Hospital Care Institute at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, overseeing six departments including Critical Care Medicine, Anesthesiology, Emergency Medicine, and Pulmonary Medicine. With 30 years of experience, he is a board-certified cardiac anesthesiologist and critical care physician who has held senior leadership roles across the United States, most recently as Chief of Cardiothoracic and Mechanical Circulatory Support Critical Care at Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center in Houston.
Dr. Díaz-Gómez is recognized internationally for pioneering work in critical care ultrasound—using real-time imaging to guide bedside procedures and manage complex patients with mechanical heart support devices and pulmonary hypertension. He has authored more than 95 peer-reviewed publications, edited two textbooks on critical care ultrasound, and is a sought-after educator and speaker. His clinical focus spans perioperative and critical care management, with particular expertise in patients requiring extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and advanced mechanical circulatory support.
He is Fellow of the American College of Critical Care Medicine and the American Society of Echocardiography, currently serves as Treasurer of the Society of Critical Care Medicine (and will become President in 2028), and holds an Adjunct Professorship at Baylor College of Medicine. He combines clinical excellence with health leadership training, holding an MBA in Healthcare Management and a Master's degree in public health from Johns Hopkins.
