Dr. Syed Irteza Hussain

Dr. Syed Irteza Hussain is Institute Chief of the Neurology Institute at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, bringing 24 years of clinical experience in neurology and neurointervention. He completed his medical degree at Aga Khan University in Karachi, Pakistan, followed by extensive postgraduate training in the United States, including neurology residency at the University of Wisconsin and specialized fellowships in stroke and neurocritical care at the University of Chicago and Medical College of Wisconsin.

Dr. Hussain is American Board certified in Neurology, Vascular Neurology, Neurocritical Care, and Neuroendovascular Surgery. He has performed more than 2,000 cerebral angiograms and neuroendovascular procedures during his career. His expertise spans acute stroke management, complex vascular brain conditions including aneurysms and arteriovenous malformations, and critical care of patients with severe neurological illness. He was instrumental in establishing 24/7 neurointerventional surgery services and a fellowship training program at Michigan State University.

Early in his career, Dr. Hussain served as Medical Director of the Stroke Program at Sparrow Health System, where he led the establishment of Michigan's first Joint Commission certified Comprehensive Stroke Center. For his leadership and clinical excellence, he received the Physician Leader of the Year award in 2015. He is an experienced educator who has mentored trainees and participated in multiple clinical trials on stroke and cerebrovascular care.
