Dr. Carlos Yánez Benítez, MD, MSC, FACS

Dr. Carlos Yánez Benítez is a consultant general surgeon at Mediclinic Parkview Hospital with deep expertise in emergency surgical interventions, trauma care, and lower gastrointestinal procedures. He trained in general surgery and trauma at the Central University of Venezuela, then pursued specialist training in general and gastrointestinal surgery in Spain. He holds an MD, an MSc, and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS).

He manages a broad range of surgical emergencies—from damage control surgery in severely injured trauma patients to acute abdominal conditions like perforated ulcers, bowel obstructions, and acute infections. He performs both open and minimally invasive (keyhole) procedures, including emergency laparotomy, appendix removal, gallbladder surgery, bowel resection, hernia repair, and chest tube placement. He is also skilled in soft tissue care, including treatment of severe infections and necrotising fasciitis.

Dr. Yánez is a passionate educator and researcher. He chairs the Emergency Surgery Section of the European Society of Trauma and Emergency Surgery (ESTES), serves as an ambassador for the American College of Surgeons' Stop the Bleed initiative, and is the founder of the Advanced Bleeding Control Course. He is actively involved in international research through the NIGHTINGALE project, focusing on haemorrhage control, tourniquet use, and mass casualty preparedness. He teaches on multiple international trauma courses (DSTC, ETC, ATLS) and is committed to advancing emergency care training worldwide.
