Dr. Neil Arun Nijhawan

Dr. Neil Arun Nijhawan is a UK-trained Consultant in Palliative Medicine and Head of Department at Burjeel Medical City in Abu Dhabi. He graduated from Kings College London and completed specialty training in palliative medicine in London, where he worked as a Consultant and Clinical Lead for Palliative Medicine at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. He was the first licensed Palliative Care Physician in Abu Dhabi and holds over 15 years of clinical experience.

Dr. Nijhawan focuses on helping patients feel better by controlling physical and psychological symptoms, including pain, nausea, breathlessness, and fatigue. He is skilled in complex treatment decision-making at the end of life and frequently provides independent second opinions. His approach treats palliative care as a comprehensive service available to all patients regardless of age, background, or stage of illness, with strong emphasis on supporting both the patient and their family through the care process.

He is also Director of Clinical Governance and Chief of Staff at Burjeel Medical City. Dr. Nijhawan believes that when symptoms are well managed, patients and families are better able to tolerate medical treatments and maintain quality of life. He approaches every patient with the philosophy of treating them like family and finding meaningful ways to help them feel better.
