Dr. Kailash Makhejani

Dr. Kailash Makhejani is an Associate Staff Physician in the Hepatology Department at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi's Digestive Disease Institute. He brings 16 years of clinical experience, including specialized training in liver transplantation. Before joining Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, he worked as a Consultant Hepatologist and Transplant Hepatologist at the Liver Transplant Unit of Dow University of Health Sciences in Karachi, Pakistan, where he managed complex cases in a high-volume transplant program.

Dr. Makhejani specializes in the full spectrum of liver disease management, including cirrhosis, autoimmune liver conditions, hepatitis B and C, fatty liver disease, and liver cancer. He has particular expertise in post-transplant care and immunosuppression management for transplant recipients. His training path—from internal medicine through gastroenterology to advanced transplant hepatology at Toronto General Hospital—has equipped him to handle both routine liver conditions and the complex medical needs of transplant patients.

He is committed to clinical teaching and has mentored medical students and postgraduate trainees throughout his career. Dr. Makhejani is an active participant in international conferences and has received multiple awards from leading hepatology and transplant societies. He speaks English, Hindi, Urdu, and Sindhi.
