Dr. Ahmed El-Barky

Dr. Ahmed El-Barky is a Consultant Ophthalmologist and Vitreoretinal Surgeon at Burjeel Medical City in Abu Dhabi. He holds the FRCS (Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons) in Ophthalmology from Glasgow, UK, and brings over 25 years of clinical and surgical experience in eye care. He is an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Benha University, Egypt, and an Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor at Khalifa University in Abu Dhabi, combining clinical practice with academic leadership.

Dr. El-Barky specializes in both surgical and medical management of retinal disease. He treats diabetic retinopathy and its complications, age-related macular degeneration, retinal vascular disease, retinal detachment, ocular trauma, and retinopathy of prematurity (a sight-threatening condition in premature infants). He performs advanced laser therapies (argon and YAG laser) and intravitreal injections (medications placed directly into the eye), alongside cataract surgery in both adults and children. He has also designed the El-Barky Vitreoretinal Chopper, a specialized surgical instrument manufactured by Geuder Company in Germany for complex cataract cases.

Fluent in English and Arabic, Dr. El-Barky is committed to patient-centered care and is an active member of major international societies including the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the European Society of Vitreo-Retinal Specialists. He publishes regularly on diabetic macular edema treatment and other retinal conditions affecting patients in the UAE region.
