Dr. Essam Fouad Elsayed

Dr. Essam Fouad Elsayed is a Consultant Physician in the Medical Subspecialties Institute at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, bringing 26 years of clinical experience in kidney medicine. He trained in internal medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, where he earned The Intern of the Year and Resident Educator awards, then completed specialized fellowship training in critical care medicine. Before joining Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, he served as an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and as a staff nephrologist at Dallas VA Medical Center, where he led the peritoneal and home dialysis service.

Dr. Elsayed is board certified in both internal medicine and nephrology by the American Board of Medical Specialties. His clinical expertise spans pre-dialysis care, dialysis management, kidney transplant preparation and follow-up, and the treatment of electrolyte disorders and chronic kidney disease. He has particular interest in the relationship between cardiovascular disease and obesity on kidney health, conducting research funded by the National Institute of Health at Tufts University in Boston. His recent research on phosphate toxicity has received coverage in national and international media.

As a fellow of both the American College of Physicians and the American Society of Nephrology, Dr. Elsayed is recognized internationally for his contributions to kidney disease research and has been invited to deliver keynote lectures at major conferences and medical institutions across the United States and globally. He holds a Master of Science degree in clinical research from Tufts University and is an author of landmark publications in his field.
