Dr. Ashok Uttamchandani

Dr. Ashok Uttamchandani is a Senior Consultant oncologist at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City in Abu Dhabi, bringing 43 years of experience in treating complex cancer cases. He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree in India and completed advanced training in palliative care at the University of Colorado, lung cancer at the University of Michigan, and tumour biology at Johns Hopkins University. Licensed by the Department of Health in Abu Dhabi, he is an active member of the Emirates Oncology Society, American Society of Clinical Oncology, and European Society for Medical Oncology.

Dr. Uttamchandani's clinical expertise covers a broad range of cancers, including breast, colorectal, pancreatic, gastric, liver and bile duct, lung, prostate and urinary cancers, thyroid cancer, and sarcomas (soft-tissue cancers). He also specialises in palliative care—managing pain and symptoms for patients with advanced cancer. His approach integrates medical oncology with understanding of tumour biology to tailor treatment to each patient's needs.

He is fluent in English, Hindi, Sindhi, and Arabic, making him accessible to diverse patient populations. His career includes leadership roles at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, Mafraq Hospital in the UAE, and SBRST Hospital in India, where he has served as medical director for inpatient blood cancer and oncology services.
