Dr. Francesco Pichi

Dr. Francesco Pichi is Interim Division Chair of Ophthalmology at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi and Program Director of the Ophthalmology Residency. He is also an Associate Professor at Case Western Reserve University. With over 15 years of clinical experience, Dr. Pichi is internationally recognised for his expertise in uveitis (eye inflammation), ocular immunology, and retinal diseases.

Dr. Pichi trained comprehensively across Europe and the United States. He earned his medical degree from the University of Bologna, Italy, completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Milan (where he trained in cataract surgery), and completed a fellowship in uveitis and ocular immunology at Cleveland Clinic's Cole Eye Institute, Ohio. He also trained at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London and Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami. His clinical expertise spans uveitis, scleritis, ocular autoimmune disorders, diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, and cataract surgery. He is particularly skilled in retinal imaging and the management of complex retinal vascular conditions.

Dr. Pichi is fluent in English, Italian, Spanish, German, and French, enabling him to care for diverse international patients. His research focuses on multimodal retinal imaging and objective measurement of eye inflammation to guide treatment and improve outcomes.
