Dr. Hassan Shawa

Dr. Hassan Shawa is the acting chair of the endocrinology division and a consultant endocrinologist at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City in Abu Dhabi. He is American board-certified with over 12 years of experience in diabetes, endocrinology, and metabolic disorders. He trained at prestigious institutions including Baylor College of Medicine and MD Anderson Cancer Center, and previously served as an associate professor and fellowship programme director at Albany Medical Center in the United States.

Dr. Shawa leads the Thyroid Cancer Clinic at SSMC, where he specializes in thyroid and parathyroid disorders, thyroid cancer and nodules, pituitary tumours, and adrenal tumours. He performs thyroid and neck ultrasounds and ultrasound-guided fine needle aspirations of thyroid nodules and lymph nodes. He also manages osteoporosis and runs an early detection clinic for type 1 diabetes.
