Dr. Liani Smit

Dr. Liani Smit is a clinical geneticist at Mediclinic City Hospital in Dubai, registered with the Dubai Health Authority. She holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery and a Master of Medicine in Medical Genetics with cum laude honours from Stellenbosch University in South Africa, and was admitted as a Fellow of the College of Medical Geneticists in 2020. She provides consultations in person and by teleconsultation to patients and families affected by genetic and hereditary conditions.

Dr. Smit's clinical expertise spans genetic counselling, prenatal and neonatal genetics, paediatric genetics, rare disease diagnosis, oncology (cancer) genetics, and precision medicine. She has a particular focus on reproductive genomics, non-invasive prenatal testing, and advanced genomic diagnostics including whole exome and whole genome sequencing. She also provides consulting support to high-end diagnostic laboratories, including Mediclinic Precise, a precision medicine initiative.

Dr. Smit is committed to advancing the field of genetics and actively participates in international training programs through the European Society of Human Genetics and the Wellcome Genome Campus. She regularly presents her research at national and international conferences. She is fluent in English and Afrikaans.
