Dr. Gourab Sen

Dr. Gourab Sen is a Consultant Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB) Surgeon at Medcare Hospital, Sharjah and Medcare Royal Speciality Hospital. He trained in India, completing his MBBS and MS from the University of Calcutta, then pursued advanced training in the UK where he obtained a research doctorate from Newcastle University and completed his higher surgical training through the Royal College of Surgeons in the North-East of England. Over 25 years, he has built an international career across India, the UK, and the UAE, establishing himself as an expert in complex liver, pancreas and biliary surgery.

Dr. Sen has performed more than 450 liver transplants and has extensive expertise in kidney and pancreas transplantation. He specializes in managing liver tumours, pancreatic cancer, biliary strictures and gallbladder disease, as well as complex benign biliary disorders. He performs advanced surgery for both benign and malignant liver tumours, including major hepatectomy and resection for primary and secondary liver cancer. He is skilled in pancreatic surgery for cancerous and benign conditions including cystic lesions and chronic pancreatitis. As a certified robotic surgeon, he uses the Da Vinci Xi platform to perform minimally invasive procedures with smaller incisions and faster recovery.

During his time in the UK as Clinical Lead for his HPB unit, Dr. Sen led multidisciplinary teams managing complex hepatic, biliary and pancreatic cases. He previously practised at Burjeel Medical City and served as an Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery at Gulf Medical University, Ajman. He maintains a strong academic profile with numerous peer-reviewed publications and is a member of major international surgical societies. His approach combines expert technical surgery with coordinated care involving hepatologists, oncologists, gastroenterologists and radiologists.
