Dr. Ramya Gnanapragasam

Dr. Ramya Gnanapragasam is a Sports and Exercise Medicine physician at Mediclinic Dubai with a passion for helping athletes of all levels return to sport safely. An athlete herself, she holds an MD in Sports Medicine and a postgraduate certification in musculoskeletal ultrasound from a London health sciences university. She has worked as team doctor for the Indian Women's cricket team, the Indian Wheelchair Basketball teams (men's and women's), and the Under-17 Indian Women's Football team.

Dr. Ramya manages sports injuries without surgery, including acute and chronic muscle, tendon, ligament, and bone injuries. She performs diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound and ultrasound-guided injections (using platelet-rich plasma, hyaluronic acid, and other agents), and conducts cardiopulmonary exercise testing on professional athletes and fitness beginners to assess heart function and oxygen capacity. She also screens young athletes before the season begins and treats sports concussions and overuse injuries in children and teenagers.

Her approach combines athletic expertise with evidence-based medicine. She works with professional athletes, occasional fitness enthusiasts, and non-athletes, tailoring care to individual goals. Dr. Ramya has particular interest in football and cricket injuries, the link between physical activity and mental health, women in sport, and nerve compression conditions.
