Dr. Carel Hugo

Carel Hugo is a sports physiotherapist with a Master's degree in Sports Physiotherapy from the University of Bath and a BSc in Physiotherapy from the University of the Free State. He holds certification as a strength and conditioning specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). He practices at Mediclinic in Dubai.

Carel has extensive clinical experience working with elite-level athletes across multiple sports. Before moving to Dubai, he held physiotherapy roles with top-tier South African rugby organizations, including the Sharks Super Rugby franchise, the Investec International Rugby Academy, and the Southern Kings PRO14 rugby team. His work spans sport-specific rehabilitation, return-to-play planning, therapeutic exercise prescription, manual therapy, dry needling, and joint mobilization—with a focus on getting athletes safely back to competition.
