Dr. Madeeha Shams

Dr. Madeeha Shams is a US-trained Consultant Infectious Diseases Physician at American Hospital Dubai with over a decade of clinical experience managing complex infections. She earned her medical degree from King Edward Medical University in Pakistan and completed her Internal Medicine residency at Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, followed by a fellowship in Infectious Diseases at the University of Maryland Medical Center. She also holds a Master of Science in Biophysics from the State University of New York at Buffalo, where she conducted research on photodynamic therapy for cancer at Roswell Park Cancer Center.

Dr. Shams specializes in comprehensive infectious disease care including travel medicine, routine adult vaccinations, tuberculosis, recurrent fevers, and rare infections. She has particular expertise in managing immunocompromised patients recovering from chemotherapy or organ transplantation, as well as hospital-acquired infections, sepsis, multi-drug-resistant bacteria, fungal and parasitic infections, and antimicrobial stewardship. She previously worked as an Infectious Diseases Consultant with Johns Hopkins Regional Physicians and contributed to public health strategies with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Tanzania.

Dr. Shams is dedicated to education and currently serves as Core Faculty for Internal Medicine Training at American Hospital Dubai. She provides evidence-based care tailored to each patient's needs and is a good fit for patients requiring specialist management of complex or unusual infections, those traveling to high-risk regions, or immunocompromised individuals.
