Dr. Wael Chaaban

Dr. Wael Chaaban is a neurosurgeon with 15 years of experience specializing in spine surgery. He currently practises at REEM Hospital in Abu Dhabi, where he focuses on advanced minimally invasive techniques. Over his career, he has performed more than 2,000 spine surgeries, with over 1,500 completed using minimally invasive methods and more than 500 using endoscopic techniques — making him a regional pioneer in these approaches.

Dr. Chaaban specializes in endoscopic discectomy and decompression (keyhole spine surgery to remove disc material and relieve nerve compression). His practice centres on treating patients with disc herniation, spinal stenosis, and related nerve compression problems using these advanced, tissue-preserving techniques that typically involve smaller incisions and faster recovery than traditional open surgery.

He is recognized regionally for his expertise and now leads the Spine Endoscopy training programme for spine surgeons across the UAE — the first programme of its kind in the region. He regularly speaks and teaches at national and international spine surgery conferences and conducts cadaveric (anatomical) training workshops to help other surgeons develop minimally invasive skills.
