Dr. Jeffrey Weiss

Dr. Jeffrey Weiss is a retinal surgeon with 40 years of experience and the former Chief of Retinal Surgery at the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston, affiliated with Harvard Medical School and MIT. He completed his medical training on full scholarships, earning his M.D. Summa Cum Laude at age 23, and simultaneously obtained a degree in Electrical Engineering Magna Cum Laude. He holds more than 23 U.S. and foreign patents and has authored over 100 publications, including 28 books.

Dr. Weiss is recognized for pioneering several breakthrough procedures in retinal surgery. He invented the equipment and technique for retinal vessel cannulation, a procedure that remains the only treatment option for patients experiencing severe stroke affecting the eye's blood vessels. He was the first to successfully use hyperbaric oxygen therapy to treat dry age-related macular degeneration and long-standing blockages of the central retinal artery. In 2010, he performed the world's first retinal stem cell surgery and now leads The Stem Cell Ophthalmology Treatment Studies I/II, the largest retinal and optic nerve stem cell research programs globally, along with The Neurologic Stem Cell Treatment Study—all IRB-approved and registered with the U.S. National Institutes of Health.

Dr. Weiss has served as a Visiting Professor and lecturer internationally. Since obtaining his Dubai medical license in 2015, he has been examining patients, performing surgery, and teaching in the UAE. He was a finalist for the United Arab Emirates HealthCare Award in 2018 and 2019.
