Prof. Sami Hassan

Prof. Sami Hassan is a UK-board-certified consultant orthopedic surgeon with over 18 years of experience specializing in hand and wrist surgery. He trained at the University of Sheffield, completing his medical degree in 2006, and then undertook his specialist training through the East Midlands rotation, achieving his FRCS (Trauma & Orthopaedics) and Certificate of Completion of Training. He has been on the GMC Specialist Register since 2017. He trained at leading hand surgery centers including the Pulvertaft Hand Centre in Derby and Chelsea & Westminster Hospital in London.

Prof. Hassan is one of only a handful of surgeons worldwide—and the only one in the Middle East and North Africa region—to hold both the British Society for Surgery of the Hand (BSSH) Diploma and the European Board Hand Surgery Diploma, both obtained in 2019. He treats the full range of hand and wrist conditions: acute fractures, carpal and cubital tunnel syndrome (pinched nerves in the hand and arm), osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, Keinböck's disease (a condition affecting one of the small wrist bones), wrist instability, and delayed complications such as mal-unions and non-unions of previous fractures. He uses arthroscopy (keyhole surgery) whenever appropriate and has particular expertise in sports injuries, having cared for elite athletes in motorsport, football, and ice hockey.

Before joining HealthPoint Abu Dhabi, Prof. Hassan was Clinical Lead for Hand Surgery at a major NHS hospital in the United Kingdom. He is active in surgical education, regularly teaching on international courses and meetings, and contributes as a peer reviewer for hand surgery journals.
