Dr. Atul Chawla

Dr. Atul Chawla is a Specialist Gastroenterologist with over 25 years of experience in private-sector hospitals in Abu Dhabi. He specializes in advanced endoscopic procedures and the diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal and liver conditions. His clinical work spans both diagnostic and therapeutic interventions across the digestive system.

Dr. Chawla has performed more than 2,000 diagnostic and therapeutic ERCPs (endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography — a procedure to treat bile duct and pancreatic conditions), along with extensive experience in foreign body removal and abdominal ultrasound. He has been performing video capsule endoscopy — a technique to visualize the small bowel — since 2007. He is proficient in a broad range of endoscopic techniques including sclerotherapy (injection therapy for bleeding varices), glue injection, endoscopic variceal ligation (treatment for bleeding esophageal varices), stricture dilatation, achalasia pneumatic dilatation, percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (feeding tube placement), enteroscopy, colonoscopy, polypectomy, biliary stenting, and common bile duct stone removal.

Dr. Chawla also brings expertise in liver disease evaluation, including liver biopsy and fibroscan (non-invasive liver fibrosis assessment), endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), and esophageal pH and pressure monitoring. He has contributed to medical knowledge as a reviewer for the JIACM journal, a peer-reviewed publication based in New Delhi, India.
