Dr. Andres Obeso

Dr. Andres Obeso is a Staff Physician in the Thoracic Surgery Department at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi's Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute. He trained in Spain, earning his medical degree from Santiago de Compostela University and completing his thoracic surgery residency at Hospital Xeral in Vigo. He brings 18 years of international experience, including faculty positions at Santiago de Compostela University Clinical Hospital and a clinical associate professorship at Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine.

Dr. Obeso has completed more than 3,000 thoracic surgeries, the majority performed using minimally invasive techniques such as video-assisted thoracic surgery (keyhole surgery) and robotic procedures. His clinical focus spans lung cancer, lung transplantation, pulmonary nodules, pneumothorax, pleural effusion, and chest wall conditions. He is recognized for surgical innovation, including describing a new technique for pulmonary artery reconstruction (2015) and performing the world's first non-intubated keyhole sympathectomy as part of a fast-track surgical program (2014).

Dr. Obeso is particularly interested in developing new minimally invasive techniques for lung cancer management. He actively contributes to international medical literature as a peer reviewer for over 15 journals and has authored articles and book chapters. He also holds leadership roles in several international medical societies.
