Dr. Abdelhamid R Seyam

Dr. Abdelhamid Seyam is a consultant neurologist with over 20 years of clinical experience in neurology and neurosciences. He completed his neurology residency and master's degree in Cairo in 2004, and went on to earn a PhD in neurosciences from the University of Canada in 2009. He spent two years at Calgary University in Alberta, Canada (2007–2009) as a clinical and research fellow in epilepsy and neurophysiology, where he obtained his Canadian Neurophysiology Diplomate certification. He joined Al-Azhar School of Medicine in Cairo as a faculty member in 2005 and was promoted to associate professor in 2018.

Dr. Seyam's clinical expertise spans difficult-to-treat epilepsy, stroke and brain vascular disorders, migraine and cluster headaches, movement disorders including Parkinson's disease and tremors, multiple sclerosis, dementia and memory disorders, and peripheral nerve disorders. He is particularly skilled in EEG analysis, epilepsy surgery evaluation, and the management of refractory epilepsy cases. His research interests include quality of life in epilepsy surgery patients, abbreviated EEG monitoring in critically ill patients, and neuroradiology of brain tumours.

He has held leadership roles across the Gulf region, serving as head of the neurology unit at Sohar Qualitity Hospital in Oman (2018–2020) and as a consultant neurologist and epileptologist at King Abdulaziz Specialist Hospital in Saudi Arabia (2020–2025). He is a member of both the American Epilepsy Society and the Canadian Society of Clinical Neurophysiologists.
