Dr. Ashok Bohra

Dr. Ashok is a Consultant General, Laparoscopic and Upper GI Surgeon with surgical training and practice spanning the United Kingdom since 1995, and prior postgraduate training in India. He has worked as a consultant since 2005, when he also established the advanced laparoscopic unit at Wigan in the UK. His practice encompasses a broad range of general surgical procedures, with particular expertise in upper gastrointestinal surgery and advanced keyhole (laparoscopic) techniques.

Dr. Ashok specialises in bariatric surgery—including sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass and mini-bypass for weight management—as well as complex oesophageal and stomach cancer surgery, laparoscopic gallbladder removal, acid reflux repair, and hernia surgery (groin, umbilical, and incisional). He also performs routine procedures such as skin lesion removal, minor rectal conditions like haemorrhoids and fistula, and both upper and lower bowel endoscopies. He led Upper GI Cancer Services at University Hospital Derby and served as a peer reviewer for the UK's national cancer services, while contributing to 23 NICE quality guidelines.

Before relocating to Dubai, he held academic positions including Honorary Assistant Professor at Nottingham University, Senior Clinical Lecturer at Birmingham University, and Associate Professor at Granada University. He is a Royal College of Surgeons examiner and tutor, has mentored consultant colleagues, and remains sought for expert surgical opinion internationally. His interests extend to medico-legal work since 2010.
