Dr. Gonçalo Vieira

Dr. Gonçalo Vieira is a Consultant Nuclear Medicine Specialist at Burjeel Medical City in Abu Dhabi with over 15 years of clinical experience. He holds a Fellowship of the European Board of Nuclear Medicine and trained at leading institutions including the University of Porto (where he earned his Master's in Medicine), IPO Porto's Nuclear Medicine Residency Programme, and the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Melbourne.

Dr. Vieira specializes in using nuclear imaging and radioactive treatments to diagnose and manage cancers of the endocrine system, neuroendocrine tumors, and genitourinary (kidney and prostate) cancers. His key expertise includes molecular imaging—visualizing how tumors function at the cellular level—and peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT), a targeted treatment that delivers radioactive agents directly to cancer cells. He has published research on advanced PET/CT imaging techniques and therapeutic applications using agents like lutetium-PSMA for prostate cancer and lutetium-DOTATATE for neuroendocrine tumors.

Dr. Vieira is an active member of major professional organizations including the European Association of Nuclear Medicine and the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging. He also serves as a visiting lecturer at Porto University, mentoring the next generation of nuclear medicine professionals. He is fluent in Portuguese, English, and Spanish, making him accessible to diverse patient populations.
