Dr. Tibor Kovacs

Dr. Tibor Kovacs is a leading breast cancer and reconstructive surgeon with extensive training across Europe and international leadership experience. He earned his MD from the University of Medical and Pharmaceutical Sciences in Romania, completed specialist general surgery training in Hungary, and obtained a PhD in Surgical Oncology from Semmelweis University in 2002. He trained further in breast reconstruction and oncoplastic surgery at major UK centres including South Manchester University Hospitals and the Royal Liverpool University Hospital, and holds European Board Certification in both Breast Surgery and Surgical Oncology (FEBS).

Dr. Kovacs has held leadership roles at several major institutions. He served as Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon at Guy's and St. Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust in London from 2013 to 2020, where he was also an Honorary Senior Lecturer at King's College London. He then led the Breast Surgery division at Jiahui International Hospital in Shanghai (2020–2022) before becoming Chief of Breast Surgery at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi (2023–2026). He joined American Hospital Dubai in March 2026 as a Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon and Director of the Breast Surgery Research Center.

At the international level, Dr. Kovacs served as President of the European Society of Surgical Oncology (ESSO) from 2018 to 2020. He is the founder and Chair of BRESO, a European certification platform for breast surgery, and the founder and Chair of the ESSO Oncoplastic Breast Surgery Course. He has been an examiner for the European Board of Surgery Qualification in Breast Surgery since 2010 and serves as Editor-in-Chief of the journal Clinical Surgical Oncology.
