Dr. Juan Abdulkarim Mela Darwesh

Dr. Juan Abdulkarim Mela Darwesh is a Consultant General Surgeon at Burjeel Abu Dhabi with 17 years of clinical experience across Syria, Kuwait, and the UAE. He earned his medical degree from Damascus University in 2006 and completed postgraduate training in general and laparoscopic surgery, gaining the Arab Board certification in 2016. Dr. Darwesh has worked in high-volume surgical settings, including Al-Adan Hospital in Kuwait—the country's only trauma center—where he progressed from registrar to senior registrar over six years, and most recently served as a Consultant Bariatric Surgeon at Oriana Hospital in Sharjah.

He brings extensive hands-on experience across the full spectrum of general surgery: keyhole hernia repair, gallbladder and bile duct procedures, upper and lower bowel resections, weight-loss surgery (sleeve gastrectomy and gastric bypass), thyroid and breast surgery, and hemorrhoid and anal-fissure treatments.
