Dr. Osama Ibrahim Hamud

Dr. Osama Ibrahim Hamud is a Consultant Neonatologist at American Hospital Dubai with extensive training in the United Kingdom and a long career in neonatal intensive care. He graduated from Tripoli University in Libya before moving to the UK, where he trained at leading teaching hospitals and completed his specialist certification in pediatrics with a neonatal sub-specialty (CCT and CSST from RCPCH) in 2008. He is a full member of the Royal College of Pediatrics and Child Health and the British Association of Perinatal Medicine.

Dr. Hamud specializes in managing critically ill newborn babies, including those born as early as 23 weeks gestation. He is highly skilled in neonatal resuscitation, cranial ultrasound scanning (including assessment for brain bleeding and fluid changes in babies with birth asphyxia), and multiple forms of respiratory support—from standard mechanical ventilation to high-frequency oscillatory ventilation, inhaled nitric oxide, and non-invasive breathing support. Before moving to the UAE, he worked as a consultant at Sunderland Royal Hospital in England, where he ran developmental clinics and specialist assessment services, and taught junior doctors and medical students from Newcastle University.

He brings evidence-based practice and experience leading Level 3 neonatal units (the most intensive level of newborn care). He regularly presents his work at national and international conferences and is committed to simulation-based training to improve neonatal emergency response.
