Dr. Ahmed Souka

Dr. Ahmed Souka is a Professor of Ophthalmology with extensive expertise in medical and surgical management of eye conditions. He trained at Alexandria University in Egypt and completed specialized fellowship and doctoral studies in Retinal Surgery at Regensburg University in Germany in 2004. He serves as Chief Retina Consultant at Alexandria iCare Eye Center, where he also directs a diabetic eye-screening program in collaboration with Harvard University and the Joslin Diabetes Institute.

Dr. Souka specializes in treating complex retinal conditions, particularly diabetic retinopathy and diabetic macular edema (fluid swelling in the central retina). He performs a range of surgical procedures including retinal detachment repair, vitrectomy (keyhole surgery inside the eye), cataract surgery with premium intraocular lenses, and retinal laser treatment. He also offers vision-correction surgery including LASIK, PRK, and femtosecond laser-assisted LASIK for short-sightedness and astigmatism. His research has focused on internal limiting membrane peeling for macular edema and has resulted in approximately 24 peer-reviewed publications.

A respected leader in his field, Dr. Souka holds board positions with the Egyptian Vitreoretinal Society and the Alexandria Ophthalmology Summit, and he founded the Alexandria Ophthalmology Society.
