Prof. Humaid Alshamsi

Professor Humaid Al-Shamsi is Chief Executive Officer of Burjeel Cancer Institute in Abu Dhabi and holds prestigious academic positions as Visiting Professor at Harvard Medical School and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. He is a Full Professor of Oncology at Ras Al Khaimah Medical and Health Sciences University and Adjunct Professor at the University of Sharjah. With 25 years of experience, he is the first Emirati to achieve the rank of Professor in Oncology in the UAE and the first to complete specialized training in palliative care in the region.

Professor Al-Shamsi specializes in medical oncology with particular expertise in gastrointestinal and colorectal cancers, precision oncology, and palliative care. He has authored over 200 peer-reviewed articles in leading journals including Lancet Oncology, Journal of Clinical Oncology, and JAMA Oncology. His landmark 2016 study in the Journal of Clinical Oncology identified a new subgroup of colorectal cancer. He is board-certified in internal medicine and oncology by the UK, USA, and Canada, and holds rare royal fellowships from multiple colleges including FRCP (Canada, Ireland, London, Edinburgh, Glasgow) and FACP (USA).

He serves as President of the Emirates Oncology Society and Chairman for Colorectal Cancer in the MENA region, appointed by the National Comprehensive Cancer Network. Professor Al-Shamsi is passionate about advancing cancer care accessibility and has championed free consultations for uninsured patients. He is a strong advocate for cancer awareness and early detection through public education and has been instrumental in bringing major international oncology initiatives to the region.
